BSNL revives 1.64 lakh crore pakage

BSNL has announced Rs 1,64,000-crore revival plan after getting approval for its merger with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BBNL).

The telecom department gave its nod for the proposed merger on May 29 last year. A day later, the Cabinet approved the proposal to merge BSNL with its subsidiary and transfer the management control to the government.

The merged entity would have an equity capital of Rs 64,000 crore.

It's going to take time for the merged company to start operations. According to the company, the merger would happen once the government sets the date for the auction of the spectrum of BSNL.

According to BSNL’s statement, the merged entity will get fresh spectrum in addition to the existing spectrum.

BSNL chairman and managing director Rakesh Sharma said, “We have received the go ahead letter of the Department of Telecom and Cabinet to proceed with the merger of BSNL with its wholly owned subsidiary BBNL. Once the spectrum is released, we expect to merge them by October-November 2019."

The board of directors of the merged firm will comprise 30 members while the chairman of the merged firm will be the MD of BSNL. The board will be chaired by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of BSNL and BBNL respectively.

The combined entity will be known as BSNL & Sons Limited, with a paid-up capital of Rs 64,00,000 crore.

The headquarters will be in Mumbai.

1. In a statement issued here today, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the plan includes an infusion of capital worth Rs 1.64 lakh crores over three years.

She added that this would help the government's objective of bringing under its control the debt-ridden telecom companies.

The plan will not only revive the loss-making state-run BSNL but also merge it with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

Sitharaman also directed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to complete the spectrum auction program in a time-bound manner.

 2. The government will pay compensation to Airtel subscribers who have been denied service due to non-payment of bills

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a decision on paying compensation to the subscribers of telecom operator Airtel who were denied services due to non-payment of their phone bills.

The government had earlier set aside Rs 35,000 crore to compensate telcos after they complained about delays in getting paid for providing services.

Airtel was among those that raised concerns, saying it had lost subscribers due to the delay.

 3. Government approves merger of BSNL with private telecom company BS NL

The government on Wednesday approved the merger of State-run BSNL with private telecommunication company Bharti Airtel Ltd as per the recommendation of telecom regulator Trai.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharama confirmed the approval in a written reply to Lok Sabha. She did not give any details regarding the quantum of a merger, though she said that the issue was studied by the Department of Telecommunication and IT.

Why does BSNL grow to fall down?

BSNL is the service provider in India. It provides wireless services to over 95% population of India. But its network coverage is not good in rural areas. So many people don't get any

connection in their homes even if they have a smartphone and internet connection.

Nowadays, almost everyone uses mobile phones. Mobile phones play an important role in our daily lives. We use these devices to make calls, send text messages, share pictures/videos, etc.

So, what happens if we lose our mobile phones? In case of theft, loss, broken, etc., the person who owns the device may face serious consequences. If he doesn’t know how to recover his device then the best solution would be to ask someone nearby to help him.

But there are some instances when a person cannot find anyone near her house. In those cases, she can only hope that someone comes to rescue her. And that someone could happen to be a thief! What if your phone falls into the clutches of a thief?

How will the thief benefit from your stolen device?

He might sell it (if he wants to) to buy something else. Or maybe he'll just keep it and use it to lure others to steal stuff.

In fact, there are several ways through which thieves can benefit from your phone. Let's check out the top 5 ways through which thieves can take advantage of your smartphone.

 1. Sell Your Phone

A thief might sell your stolen phone at a local market. When the police arrest the thief, they would bring back the phone and take action. But, it could be difficult for them to identify the owner of the phone unless the thief had registered the number with some SIM card.

 2. Use Your Device To Trick Others

If your phone is locked, a thief can easily unlock it without paying a penny. He can do so by using your account details to pay a few bucks to unlock your phone. Once unlocked, he can browse through the data stored in your phone and download anything that he likes.

 3. Download Pirated Movies and Music

Thieves can access pirated movies and music files using their smartphones. These illegal downloads cost money, but they're free for the ones who steal your device.
