NR Narayana Murthy Narayana Murthy is the founder and entrepreneur of the well-known software company Infosys Technologies. In 1981, Narayan Murthy, along with some of his friends, founded Infosys, which touched new heights of success in the field of software. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Infosys from 1981 to 2002, and under his leadership made the company at par with those few. Not only did he become the leader of the Indian software industry, but he is also a source of inspiration for Indian companies to achieve great heights abroad.


Narayana Murthy Early Life

Narayana Murthy was born on 20 August 1946 in a middle-class family in the city of Mussoorie, Karnataka. He has 8 brothers and a sister, his father was a school teacher and his uncle was a polite helper. The economic situation of his family was not good.


Narayana Murthy Education

He had completed his studies at a government school. He wanted to become an engineer. After completing his schooling, he took its entrance exam for admission to "IIT Kanpur", in which he was cleared with a high degree and scholarship. With the suggestion of his father, he joined the "National Institute of Engineering", a local engineering college. In 1967, he completed his B.E. in Electrical Engineering. Graduated with a degree.

Narayana Murthy Marriage

He was married to Sudha Murthy alias Kulkarni. They have 2 children. His son's name is Rohan Murthy and his Daughter's name is Akshata Murthy.

 Narayana Murthy Business career

 Narayana Murthy agreed to the job at IIM where a brand new computer was installed at that time. The number of computers Murthy had ever seen. He was the best and fastest among them. He could gain valuable experience driving it. Murthy started working as Chief Systems Programmer at IIM in 1969, where he was initially paid a monthly salary of Rs.800. Here Murthy used to spend about 20 hours a day with the computer. Even after getting a low salary in IIM, he never regretted it, rather he used to call it the best experience of his life.

Establishment of Infosys Company

After this, he founded a company 'Softtronics', which could not succeed. Later Narayan Murthy joined Patni Computer Systems (PCS) Pune after a year and a half. He got a job in Patni Computer Systems, where he met Nandan Nilekani and others, with whom he founded the 'Infosys Company' in 1981. Narayan Murthy was the CEO of Infosys from 1981 to 2002, and under his leadership, he raised a small software company at par with the big companies of the world. Narayana Murthy was succeeded by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani as CEO. He was the chairman of the board from 2002 to 2006 and after that, he became the main mentor of the company. He retired from the company in 2011, taking the title of Chairman Emeritus. Narayana Murthy is also a member of advisory boards and committees of several educational and philanthropic institutions. Narayana Murthy is also on the Asia Pacific Advisory Board of British Telecommunications. In 2005 he co-chaired the World Economic Forum in Davos. On 1 June 2013, N. R. Narayana Murthy returned to Infosys as Executive Chairman and Additional Director. On 14 June 2014, he stepped down as the working chairman of Infosys.

Awards

From 1996-97 he joined J.R.D. Received 'Tata Corporate Leadership Award. In 1998, 1999, and 2000, Business Week consistently included her in the list of 'The Stars of Asia'. In 2000, the Government of India decorated him with 'Padma Shri'. In 2005, he was voted the 8th best manager in the world. In 2008, the Government of India honored him with the 'Padma Vibhushan'. In 2008, the French government also honored him with the 'Officer of the Legion of Honor.
