What is Indian Army?

Indian Army is the biggest and most respected army of our country. She always stands on the border for the security of the country and is always ready for emergency situations. There are 3 types of armies in our country. Such as- Navy, Army, and Naval Army. These three armies keep the country safe from all sides. The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Army and there are more than 14 lakh soldiers in the Indian Army, whose main objective is to protect the nation from external terror and to maintain peace and order in the borders and the citizens of the country during natural calamities in the country. All Indian armies have different ranks and posts for all their soldiers, which shows them different from other soldiers, similarly rights are also given on the basis of ranks, so that they can exercise that right in an emergency. All the posts of the Indian Army are divided into 2 parts, in which a senior post and a junior post have been included and some symbols are given on the uniform of the soldiers which shows their posts and according to the posts the officers have their have different rights.

SENIOR COMMISSIONED OFFICERS

1. Field Marshal


    This post is the highest in the army but this post is given as an honor. The title of Field Marshal lasts even after the end of army service, that is, he continues to be honored with this title till the person is alive. But at present the army has abolished this post. Its symbol is as follows.

  • The Field Marshal's badge consists of a golden laurel wreath with a 5 pointed star, national emblem and cross baton.

  • This is the highest title of the Indian Army.

  • This title is given for his bravery during the time of war.

  • So far only 2 persons have been awarded this title in India.

  1.     Sam Manekshaw - He was given this rank on January 1, 1973.

  2.     Kodandera M. Cariappa – Conferred on January 15, 1986.

General 

  •  This is the highest rank after Field Marshal but after abolishing the Field Marshal rank, it has become the highest rank of the Indian Army. This rank is with the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army and it can also be near the Chief of Defense Staff, it is placed above the Lieutenant General.

  • There are 4 stars on the badge of this Indian Army officer.

  • The general officer carries a five-pointed golden star, Ashoka insignia and cross baton on his shoulder.

Lieutenant General 

This is a rank after the General rank and a rank higher than Major General. She leads a large Indian Army consisting of 60,000 to 70,000 soldiers.

  •  There are 3 stars on the badge of a Lieutenant General officer.

  •  This officer carries a golden Ashoka insignia and a cross baton on his shoulder.

  •  For its election, 36 years of commissioned service of that soldier is necessary.

  •  Its retirement age is 60 years.

Major General 

 This rank is the highest rank after Lieutenant General and higher than Brigadier.

  •  A golden star and cross battle is attached to the badge of this army officer. He serves as the commander of divisions that number between 10,000 and 16,000 soldiers.

  •  For this election, 28 years of commissioned service of that soldier is necessary.

  •  The retirement of Major General has been fixed for 58 years.

Brigadier 

  •  This is a rank after Major General and higher than Colonel, this officer's badge has 3 stars and an Ashoka symbol. 25 years of commissioned service is required to get this rank.

  • Its retirement age is 56

Colonel 

  • This is a rank after Brigadier and higher than Lieutenant Colonel. This officer carries the national emblem and 2 stars on his shoulder. This rank is equivalent to the Captain of the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force and to get this rank, 15 years of military service is necessary.

  •  Colonel retires for 56 years.

Lieutenant Colonel 

 This is a higher rank than Major. The badge of this officer carries the national emblem and a five-pointed star and national emblem, for this, 13 years of commissioned service and passing Part-D paper.

Major 

 It is a rank higher than Captain and less than Lieutenant, the national emblem Ashoka is on the badge of the officer of this rank. This post requires 6 years of commission service and qualifying Part B paper.

Captain 

This is a rank after Major and higher than Lieutenant, 3 stars are made on the badge of Captain. To become a captain, one has to serve for 2 years and follow all the rules.

Lieutenant 

This is the rank after Captain and above all juniors, Lieutenant can command all junior rank officers. The lieutenant's badge carries 2 stars.

JUNIOR COMMISSIONED OFFICERS

Subedar Major 

 This is the highest rank in the rank of junior officer, the golden national emblem Ashoka symbol is on the badge of this officer.

Subedar 

This Subedar is a rank after Major and higher than Naib Subedar. Two golden stars are made on the badge of the Subedar.

Naib Subedar 

 This is the rank after Subedar whose badge has 1 Golden Star on it.

Havaldar 

It is selected on the basis of promotion of constables. Three rank chevrons i.e. 3 rank strip is made on the badge of Havaldar.

Nayak 

 This ranks after Havildar and higher than Lance Nayak. The hero's badge has a 2 rank stripe.

Lance Nayak 

 When the soldiers are promoted, they are first in the rank of Lance Nayak. Lance Naik's badge carries a 1 rank stripe.

Soldier

There is no rank on the uniform of the soldier, a soldier without rank is a normal soldier who follows the orders of the rank officers and protects the country.


Only after the advancement of the general soldier, that is, he takes up the next ranks and takes the rank of junior and senior from the soldier. Many army officers of India have also been awarded the Param Vir Chakra, which is a symbol of their valor.
