History of NASA

On July 19, 1958, a law was passed by the US Congress, under which NASA was established. Since then, NASA has provided many important information about the solar system and the universe with the help of humans and satellites.

Along with this, many satellites were installed in the Earth's orbit, which became helpful in guiding from weather forecasting to global communication.

After World War II, the situation between the US and the Soviet Union was going on tense. Meanwhile, on October 04, 1957, the Soviet Union launched its first space satellite, Sputnik I. Which was a basketball-sized satellite weighing 183 pounds and within 98 minutes was placed in Earth's orbit.America was surprised by this success of the Soviet Union and at the same time a fear arose that the Soviets could now use nuclear weapons from Europe to America through missiles. In response to this, America established NASA, after which the space race started between the two countries.

On November 03, 1957, the Soviet Union launched its second satellite, Sputnik II. In which a bitch named Laika was sent to space. In December, the US attempted to launch its own satellite, named Vanguard, but it was destroyed shortly after takeoff.On October 31, 1958, the US tried again and successfully placed its first satellite, Explorer I, into Earth orbit. In July of the same year, Congress officially established NASA from the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and other government agencies, and reaffirmed the nation's commitment to winning the space race.

In May 1961, the then US President John F. Kennedy announced that America would send a man to the moon by the end of the decade. On July 20, 1969, NASA's Apollo 11 mission achieved this goal and created a new history by sending Neil Armstrong as the first human to the moon, which is still remembered by the people.

Even after this, NASA established many new dimensions, including the construction of the International Space Station as a main achievement. Along with this, the organization has also suffered some tragic setbacks, the death of the crew including the Challenger Space Shuttle in 1986 and the Columbia Space Shuttle in 2003 was a very bad phase for NASA.

Some special achievements of NASA

Project Mercury

This was NASA's first program to send humans into space. Between 1961 and 1963, 25 flights were made, out of which 6 were astronauts. The main objective of this program was to orbit the manned spacecraft in Earth's orbit, to test the man's capability in space, and to successfully bring the astronauts and the spacecraft back to Earth. This mission stated that humans can work in space for 34 hours for unloaded flight.

Gemini Program

As part of this program, equipment and mission procedures were tested and astronauts and terrestrial crew were trained for future Apollo missions. The main objective of this program was to test the performance of astronauts during long flight and to find out how a spacecraft can meet and fit into another vehicle while orbiting the Earth at a given time. On July 03, 1965, NASA astronaut Ed White became the first American to perform a spacewalk.

Apollo Program

Under the program Apollo, man stepped on the Moon for the first time and returned safely to Earth. Along with this, the Apollo program also developed technology to fulfill the interests of other nations in space. Under this program, scientific exploration of the moon was done and human capabilities were developed to work in the moon's environment.

Skylab

This was America's first space station, which was launched by NASA. In this, four solar arrays were connected with the Apollo Telescope Mount. The observation of the Sun was one of the achievements of this program.

Pioneer

In the years 1972 and 1973, respectively, Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 were launched.These were the first spacecraft to reach Jupiter and Saturn, the largest photogenic gas-forming planets in the Solar System. Pioneer 10 was the first vehicle to reach the asteroid belt of the Solar System (the region between Jupiter and Mars where rocks orbit). After reaching Jupiter after about one and a half years, it was the same vehicle to send pictures of the great red spot present there.After a year on Jupiter, it reached the planet Saturn. After reaching where it discovered a pair of small moons around Saturn. Also sent information about a big deceit. At present both these vehicles have stopped working.

This spacecraft using infrared has revealed many secrets of the sky. This vehicle provided pictures of stars, galaxies and nebulae with better quality.

Spitzer was the first telescope to detect the light of extrasolar planets in the year 2005.
